There are two versions of this breed, the American Brittany and the French Brittany. Both are considered the same breed but the American Brittany is taller and quicker, and the French Brittany is said to have more Spaniel and be a better gun dog.
Traits
The Brittany is a petite breed that is independent and intelligent. They have an affectionate and happy personality that is ongoing. The are great companions as well as working dogs. The Brittany loves the water and is a very versatile dog, being able to hunt in all types of environments. They are used for hunting hare, partridge, and woodcock.
Appearance
Weighing in at 30-40 lbs (14-18 kgs) and averaging 17-21 inches high, the Brittany is a smaller, athletic breed that was bred to be this size as they are easier to transport for hunters. They are compact and lightly muscular with an agile gait. The coat is very soft and of medium length and comes in five colours, black tri colour, orange and white, liver and tri colour, liver and white, and black and white. They have small floppy ears that are semi pricked upwards and round curious eyes. The tail is short but in some cases are docked for show purposes.

The Brittany is one of the healthiest breeds of dog only being prone to Hip Dysplasia and some lines are prone to seizures.
Training
The Brittany is a quick, responsive learner making them relatively easy to train. Some can be very stubborn but the owner must be very consistent and clear to ensure proper behavior and training for this dog. They are smart and love to work so obedience, agility, and pointing exercises would be perfect for exercising this dog. They must be socialized at puppy hood with children and other pets as they can develop fears as adults if this isn’t done.
Care
This breed is low maintenance, only really needing weekly brushing to keep the coat tangle free. They shed very little and the owner needs to bath them when they deem it necessary. Special attention should be brought to their ears as they can be easily infected.
Breed
This breed is categorized in the Sporting Group. They would do well in a house environment as they need the extra space to roam around in. A big backyard or even acreage would be good for this breed as they thrive on running. The average lifespan of the Brittany is around 10-12 years and they have on average 1-11 pups per litter. When obtaining a puppy Brittany Spaniel, keep in mind that every puppy is different and to research your breed before bringing the baby home!
